Differences between Western Medicine and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine)

July 26, 2022

Both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine have its advantages and disadvantages. While TCM is essentially a therapeutic art based on the philosophy of Yin and Yang and the five elements in the human body, Western medicine is primarily an evidence-based science (laboratory-based).

How is Traditional Chinese Medicine different from Modern Medicine?

Surgery, moxibustion, hot cupping, acupuncture, massage, herbal medicine, and nutraceutical medicine are all included in traditional medicine, also referred to as Traditional Chinese medicine. On the other hand, western medicine (modern medicine) mostly uses single-molecule medications and surgery.

Can Traditional Chinese Medicine be taken with Western Medicine?

Single herbs, Chinese proprietary medications, and combinations of various plants are all used in Chinese herbal therapy. Western medications can be mixed with any one of these three categories.
